Tatum (to be adopted with best friend Teegan)'s Story
Tatum and Teegan are two cockatiel buddies who must be adopted together. We think Teegan is Tatum's dad. Tatum is a lovely pearl cockatiel. Because we don't know her age, we're uncertain of gender but based on her markings, we believe she is a female. They are on a healthy diet and enjoy exploring and playing.

The listed adoption fee is for the pair.

Sex: Male

Teegan and Tatum must be adopted as a pair for a total adoption fee of $200.

About the species: Cockatiels (Nymphicus hollandicus) are the smallest members of the cockatoo family and are among the world's most popular companion parrots. Native to the grasslands, scrublands, and open woodlands of Australia, they are recognized by their slender crest, long tail, and expressive personalities. While wild cockatiels are primarily gray with yellow faces and orange cheek patches, decades of responsible aviculture have produced a variety of beautiful color mutations commonly seen in companion birds.

Known for their gentle, affectionate nature, companion cockatiels often enjoy spending time with their people and may whistle, chirp, or learn to mimic simple sounds and tunes. Although they are generally quieter than many larger parrot species, they are active, social birds that benefit from daily interaction, enrichment, and opportunities to exercise both physically and mentally. Like all cockatoos, cockatiels produce a fine feather dust (powder down) that helps maintain their plumage, so regular cleaning, good air circulation, and HEPA air purifiers can be beneficial in the home.

With proper care, companion cockatiels commonly live 15–25 years, with some living even longer, making them a meaningful long-term commitment.

Because of their intelligence, activity level, and strong social nature, companion parrots benefit from daily interaction, mental stimulation, and opportunities for exercise both inside and outside their enclosure. To promote healthy movement and comfort, PEARL requires adopters to provide a cage that is at least 1.5 times the bird's adult wingspan in width, depth, and height, with larger enclosures always encouraged. This standard is based on the bird's ability to comfortably extend and flap its wings while inside the cage.

Interested in Adopting? Visit PEARL's website (www.pearlparrots.com) to complete an adoption application and register for a Standards of Care class. After completing the class, a PEARL Adoption Counselor will meet with you to learn more about your home and help identify the companion parrot or parrots that may be a good fit for you. Adoption fees vary by species, and adopters are required to provide a PEARL-approved cage appropriate* for the parrot or parrots they adopt.

*NOTE: Our foster families understand the habitat needs of the PEARL parrots in their care, and some parrots may have individual housing considerations beyond the standard cage requirements. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM PURCHASING A CAGE BEFORE MEETING WITH A PEARL ADOPTION COUNSELOR. Your counselor will help you select an appropriate cage for the parrot or parrots you hope to welcome into your home.

**********************************

PEARL Parrot Rescue is an all-volunteer and foster-based organization located in Pittsburgh, PA.
