Sydney and Sheldon – A Remarkable Pair of African Greys's Story

Sydney and Sheldon are two of the most incredible pairs of African Greys we’ve had in decades. These two have been dancing companions their entire lives. They are believed to be a pair of females who are extremely hand-tame, talkative, and absolutely love to dance. They enjoy having their heads scratched, and once they trust you, they will even lie on their backs in the palm of your hand. They are comfortable with both men and women.

When they arrived, they were housed together in one medium-sized, overcrowded cage. They had been competing for food and treats, and even plucking each other’s feathers for years. Since being placed in their own brand-new, identical white cages (A&E Model #8002422), they have flourished. Often, they mirror each other’s actions. For example, when one eats, the other follows, proudly showing off her own food bowl.

Their feathers are finally starting to grow back, and they are blossoming into the beautiful parrots they were meant to be. During the day, they play together in the same aviary, where they are lively and affectionate with each other. At night, they rest in their side-by-side cages.

These two speak well over 50 words and phrases. Here’s a sample of a few words and phrases they say:

Love you…

Will be back…

Bye-bye…

We’ll miss you…

Good birds…

Good girl…

Good boy…

Come here…

Come on…

Mommy…

Ha, ha, ha, ha…

Taste good…

I love it…

No, don’t…

Darn…

Hi, baby…

Scooby, Doobie Doo…

Pretty bird…

Penis

Come here, butthole…

Clean water…

Hello…

Are you OK???

Sidney…

Sid…

Sheldon…

A feather…

Whoops…

Want to come out…

Listen to me…

Come on, Sid…

Yes, dear…

Want to come in…

How are you doing…

OK…

Hi, Sidney…

Buddy…

Yes, you are…

Want to come in here…

Mars…

Pablo…

Would you quit…

Upstairs…

Pool…

Sit down…

Move…

Sydney and Sheldon love to play off each other’s sounds and dance routines.
