Snowy's Story

Say hello to Snowy, who came in with some feathered friends! They are not used to being handled but enjoy having time outside their enclosures to explore. They enjoy various types of enrichment in their enclosures such as perches, swings, mirrors, and puzzle toys! Budgies are very social and known for their happy behavior. They can live anywhere from 5-8 years. They are required to go home together in pairs or groups and qualify for BOGO for Besties!

The minimum cage size for one bird is 12 inches by 18 inches by 18 inches, but bigger is always better! When planning for two birds, you'll need to more than double this size to account for the extra toys and flying space needed. The cage should be filled with lots of perches, ladders, ropes, and fun toys like bells. It is also recommended birds get free-roaming time daily to stretch their wings.

Budgies should be fed a pellet/seed diet. In addition to pellets, budgies should be offered chopped veggies and a variety of fruits. Birds also need access to fresh water every day. Cuttlebones should also be provided to supply your bird with calcium and prevent overgrowth of the beak. Ask TCHS staff for more details/tips on proper care.

*Adoption holds may be placed on available animals in person or by calling (320) 252-0896. An adoption hold reserves available animals for one day after the animal is ready to be adopted. More than one adoption hold may be placed on an available animal and will be honored in the order they were received. Adoption holds are $25 plus tax, are non-refundable, non-transferable and not applied toward the adoption fee.

**Minnesota sales tax and an administrative fee ($20 for cats/dogs and $10 for small animals) will be applied to all adoptions. Donations and adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, vaccinating, deworming, any medical procedures, and general care of all shelter animals.
