Shokupan's Story

Four close pigeon friends! We have been together through thick and thin. We managed to stay alive and healthy for 9 years of pigeon racing. "Coos" of encouragement and "wing slaps" of praise can go a long way. We loved our family flock that surrounded us and mentored many a junior racers. We truly believed our time of rest and retirement lay ahead. But one day that dream was shattered when the owner grew tired of us and dumped all 4 close friends in the middle of a parking lot. Unwanted, alone, bewildered, and lost, we surely thought our future looked gloomy. A miracle arrived and shined down on us in the form of Eugene, a GLPR rescuer. His keen eyes knew we were abandoned domestic birds who did not belong there, and he scooped us up and drove us to safety. We "cooed" many sighs of relief in Eugene's direction. Now all 4 friends, Shokupan, Babka, Lavash, and Anpan, await an even happier ending.<br/>I am Shokupan - my namesake is the Japanese milk-bread. Sweet, pillowy soft, and fluffy definitely describes me! With my many years of existence on this earth I have learned the art of kindness and congeniality work best for me. I look forward to each day with renewed hope, and I know the future brings a brightness I have never known. There is an ancient Japanese saying: "Fall seven times get up eight." For the eighth time shall be my lucky number and carry me on wings of love to my forever home.
