Sammie's Story

Sammie is a gentle Quaker parakeet with a sweet, observant personality. She (sex not confirmed) is still gaining confidence in her foster home, but she's making wonderful progress. She enjoys calm interaction and has started seeking out her people by flying to nearby shoulders or coming to investigate during out-of-cage time.

She isn't particularly loud, uttering adorable little grumble sounds when someone stops to talk with her. She especially enjoys gentle conversation, exploring her cage, and relaxing under her favorite fuzzy fleece preener near the top of the cage. (Her foster home reports seeing evidence that she chews on finger traps and little wood pieces!)

Sammie's an adventurous foodie, eagerly sampling new fruits and veggies in her food cup. (She would probably trade you for a grape!)

Though still cautious with hands and unfamiliar objects, Sammie has shown a soft, non-aggressive temperament and communicates with very clear body language. Her foster family is glad to announce that Sammie recently accepted her first head-scratch, and that she "really leaned in and enjoyed it!"

She has lived with other birds in the past and enjoys their company. Because of these qualities, Sammie would be a good contender for your first bird, or your fifth (we don't judge!).

Sammie would likely thrive in a home where she can have both regular interaction and a peaceful space to retreat and feel secure. Her foster family describes her as becoming more lively every day and believes there's still plenty of personality left to blossom as she gains confidence.

Sammie would make a lovely companion for someone willing to give her patience, kindness, and the time she needs to continue coming out of her shell.
