Ricki's Story

Ricki is ready to rock your world!
This charming, quirky cockatoo is somewhere in his fabulous 20s and full of personality. With a love for music, dancing, and chatting, Ricki is the kind of bird who brings energy and heart to any home--just don't expect peace and quiet!

Ricki has a few missing toes on one foot, but that doesn't hold him back. He's a confident climber who navigates his space with ease, especially when he has flat or rope perches to help him out. He prefers stepping onto an arm over a hand--it gives him a little extra stability, and hey, we all like what we like.

Once he bonds with you, Ricki is a total character. He'll greet you with a chipper "Hi Ricki boo-boo!" or request his favorite treat with "Ricki needs a cracky!" He even does a pretty good dog bark impression and kicks off the mornings with a sweet "Hi Ricki." His favorite things include Harrison's pellets, chewing on wood, grooving to music, and dancing when his foster mom sings.

Ricki takes a little time to build trust, so he's looking for someone experienced with large birds--especially cockatoos--who understands how to go at his pace and read his cues. He's made big strides lately: his feather condition is improving, and his plucking has decreased significantly with the right care and environment.

Because Ricki is loud and proud, he needs a home without shared walls.

If you've got patience, experience, and a love for big bird energy, Ricki might just be your new best friend. Ricki is available for adoption to Missouri residents only.
Adoption Fee: $300

STAR - St. Louis Avian Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please note, due to the quantity of emails that we receive, simply "starting an inquiry" will not receive a reply. Please email info@staravian.org if you have a specific question. The first step is to fill out an Adoption Application, which can be found on our website. All birds are in volunteer foster homes, and a meeting may not be set up until you are approved to adopt. Our adoption team will process your application and set up a home visit. All current pets (including any birds cockatiel and larger) must be up to date on yearly wellness exams and any state mandated vaccines. We do not ship birds, and have a 100-mile adoption radius (using St. Louis Lambert Airport as the start point). We do not adopt to breeders. We are not able to adopt birds into homes that use Teflon product or smoke due to toxicity dangers.
