Poupon's Story

Poupon was already a senior when he was rescued, and his leg was so badly mangled that emergency amputation was the only way to save his life. That's quite an entrance into retirement. He came through it, and he'd like to make his position on further excitement very clear: he's done with it.

Don't let the back-to-school photo shoot fool you. Poupon has no intention of going back to anything. He has put in his years, and now he'd like the refined, unhurried life his name promises. Like the famous mustard, he's grey and he's distinguished, and he would appreciate being treated accordingly.

He certainly dresses the part. His suit is deep charcoal, with a collar of iridescent green that turns emerald when he catches the light. A dusting of white flecks across his crown and brow gives him the salt-and-pepper look of a gentleman of a certain age, and a few white flashes show where his wings meet his back.

Because Poupon does everything on one foot, that foot carries all his weight, so soft footing matters. He'll be happiest in a calm setup with padded flat surfaces (fleece, folded towels, and yes, cushions) and nothing too high to hop onto or tumble from. A quiet household with a steady daily routine will suit him best. Surprises are for younger birds.

If your home runs on calm evenings and good pillows, Poupon has one question for you.

Pardon me, but would you have a cushion?
