Wildlife Rescue of Charlotte's Adoption Policy
potential adopters complete a phone screening and then if approved, we schedule a meet & greet with the pet they are hoping to adopt. an adoption contract must be completed prior to taking the adoptive pet home. below are the rabbit adoption requirements listed on our website: we require your rabbit to live indoors only. due to RHDV2 it is not recommended that rabbits be allowed to go outside at all. we don’t allow rabbits to live in cages or hutches. free-roam is preferred if the rabbit is litter trained. if you must contain your rabbit you can use an exercise playpen type enclosure like this rabbits cannot live full time in your childs bedroom. they like to be part of the entire family and it’s imperative that an adult is the primary caregiver. please familiarize yourself with this rabbit care guide by the House Rabbit Society and this rabbit diet guide by Oxbow unless otherwise stated, there is no set adoption fee. we just ask that you make a donation to WRoC to the extent that you are able to. for reference: in addition to the cost of food, supplies & a microchip we pay $144 to neuter each male and $168 to spay each female. each rabbit gets a full health exam when they are spayed/neutered. we highly recommend having your rabbit vaccinated for RHDV2. you can learn about RHDV2 here and see up-to-date maps of where the disease has been detected here. if you want your rabbit vaccinated during their spay/neuter appointment please let us know. the booster would be scheduled for 3 weeks later and the total cost to you for both is $48 paid directly to SnipWell. we highly recommend getting health insurance for your rabbit because rabbits are considered exotic pets and often times exotic vets are more expensive. to our knowledge, Nationwide is the only company that offers pet health insurance for rabbits in the US. visit their website here and call 1-800-874-0651 for a quote
