Neptune's Story

Meet Neptune! He's a young Indian Ringneck Parakeet with a curious personality and a cautious approach to new things. He's living life for the first time, and there's so much to explore!

Neptune has come a long way since arriving at STAR. He was initially nervous around people and protective of his cage, but he now happily comes out when his foster gives him his "out" cue. He enjoys being around people and watching whatever is happening nearby, even if he prefers to do his own thing.

He's a big fan of toys. Anything he can chew, shred, and turn into tiny pieces is right up his alley. He also loves perching on top of his playstand, checking out the view from the window, hanging out on top of the computer monitor, and exploring his surroundings. He may be cautious about new things, but once Neptune decides something is safe, he can become quite the fan. Case in point: he was once terrified of perching on top of a door. Now? He loves it.

Neptune is still learning about hands. Sometimes he will step up, but if he's not interested, he'll make his feelings very clear. Fortunately, he is an enthusiastic stick-stepper and reliably steps onto a perch when he'd rather not use a hand. He has expressive body language, so a person who pays attention to his signals will be well on their way to earning his trust.

Neptune doesn't talk or sing yet, but he has plenty to say in the form of chirps, coos, and adorable little babbles. He even makes a sound that sort of resembles "I love you," and meows on occasion. (Maybe he was a cat in a past life?)

He can be quiet, but every so often he gets a serious case of the bird zoomies and flies around before settling back down. He also enjoys a good misting when he's in the mood, but the sink sprayer is apparently where he draws the line.

Neptune would do well with someone patient, respectful of his boundaries, and willing to let trust develop at his pace. He can live with or without other birds and could fit into either a quiet or active home, as long as he gets plenty of interaction and enrichment. If you're looking for a young bird with personality, a healthy dose of caution, and occasional unexplained cat noises, Neptune might just be your guy!

Adoption fee: $300
