Midge & Zesty (married couple)'s Story

Both Zesty’s coloring and personality match her name! Zesty’s feather color pattern is known as a red bar, which we affectionately call a “cinnamon pidge!” And sassy, fluffy Zesty is just as sweet and spicy as a red hot cinnamon candy. Zesty was rescued after trash debris on the Chicago sidewalk entangled around her feet and caused her to loose several toes. She healed bravely and began enjoying her new life of soft cushions and pampering right around the time Midge the pidge was airborne, feeling as carefree as ever, when "THUD" suddenly the sky had stopped and Midge pitched to the ground dizzy and confused. His head throbbed and he leaned gently against a garage for support. Up to one billion birds die each year in the United States alone due to window collisions. They mistake the reflection off plate glass for the continuation of the sky. Lucky for Midge, a kind woman was tossing her garbage that morning and discovered the poor guy. Nestling Midge in her arms, she took him inside for a few days and attempted to care for him. Realizing she was not successful, Janet called her friend who directed her to GLPR. Pigeons have an amazing ability to recover from neuro trauma, but it can take weeks and months, during which Midge rested, recovered, and fell in love with Zesty! Shy Midge is so proud of his bold and beautiful wife Zesty, and both her “wonky” feet and his occasional tilt to the side make them especially appreciative of couch cushions and fluffy blankets in their newfound world. Just two adorable fluffs, Zesty and Midge long to be understood and cherished in a foster or forever home!
