Lily's Story

Meet Lily, a 23 year old Goffin's Cockatoo with a gentle soul, playful quirks, and a steadily growing confidence.

Lily continues to settle in nicely in foster care and has been making good progress with stepping up. She has been relatively quiet for a cockatoo, often making small yelpy, bark like sounds and responding when you say "Hi Lily" or "Wave!" That said, she is still very much a cockatoo and does have louder moments, especially at bedtime or when she really wants your company. Because of this, she is not a good fit for homes with shared walls.

She gets around her cage with confidence and speed and is very capable despite her inability to fly. Due to a history of feather plucking and missing flight feathers, she cannot fly and can be a bit wiggly, so a bird safe setup is important. Lily enjoys looking out the window, crunching on cardboard or finger trap toys, and dangling upside down from the top of her cage with both feet, which she does with impressive enthusiasm.

Lily is affectionate in her own way and will lean her head forward to request neck scratches. While she is still working toward fully consistent stepping up, she is clearly building trust and enjoys gentle interaction on her terms. With time, patience, and routine, she has the potential to continue strengthening that bond.

Diet wise, Lily has been eating more Zupreem Natural pellets in addition to the fruit blend and continues to explore fresh foods. Crunchy paper toys and cardboard based enrichment are favorites and help keep her busy and engaged.

Lily would do best with someone who understands the sensitive nature of cockatoos and can provide structure, patience, and consistency. She may have some quirks, but her sweet disposition, playful personality, and ongoing progress make her a truly rewarding companion for the right home.
Adoption Fee: $400

STAR - St. Louis Avian Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please note, due to the quantity of emails that we receive, simply "starting an inquiry" will not receive a reply. Please email info@staravian.org if you have a specific question. The first step is to fill out an Adoption Application, which can be found on our website. All birds are in volunteer foster homes, and a meeting may not be set up until you are approved to adopt. Our adoption team will process your application and set up a home visit. All current pets (including any birds cockatiel and larger) must be up to date on yearly wellness exams and any state mandated vaccines. We do not ship birds, and have a 100-mile adoption radius (using St. Louis Lambert Airport as the start point). We do not adopt to breeders. We are not able to adopt birds into homes that use Teflon product or smoke due to toxicity dangers.
