Jinx's Story
Jinx is a DNA-sexed female Red-Lored Amazon. We are unsure of her age but our vet thinks she is in her 30s. She is tame and handlable. Her feathers were in rough shape when she was surrendered but they are improving. Jinx does love all the attention and sometimes gets jealous if the attention is directed toward someone else. She loves to show off her beautiful whistling skills and can even stick her tongue out! She has been thoroughly vet checked, including bloodwork.

Amazons can be wonderful, fun, energetic birds to have in your home and family. Unfortunately, because of their beauty and reputation to be "talkers," they are often purchased by families that aren't necessarily educated or experienced enough to deal with their specific needs. A lot of them wind up plucking or even biting their families and then find their way to a rescue when the family can no longer care for them. By the time birds come to CARE, they may have already been rehomed multiple times and/or have suffered emotional trauma.

Our responsibility to these birds is to find them forever homes where they can flourish and live a healthy, happy life. To that end, we will not accept applications for our Amazons from those who have never owned large birds. Applicants with personal Amazon experience will be given precedence as Amazons require families who can meet their specific needs like mental stimulation, foraging opportunities, lots of out of cage play time, and understand that not all Amazons are like the talking ones you see on YouTube. Some birds may never feel comfortable talking, but that doesn't make them any less worthy of a loving home.

Jinx's adoption fee is $600. For more information on adoption, please visit our website at www.centerforanimalrehab.org, read our Adoption Policies and fill out our Adoption Application. Our Adoption Coordinator will then be in touch with you. We are located in Waukesha, WI and do not ship.
