Easily startled and may scream for no apparent reason when out of cage. Plucks rarely. Some feathers show gaps or stress marks. Otherwise affectionate and calm when I handle him.
Why are you needing to rehome your bird?
Jerry has been with my family for 19 years. Since my mother’s retirement and relocation a year ago, which coincided with my taking on new professional and social commitments, I have had great difficulty giving Jerry the care he needs and deserves. I have not been able to interact with him nearly as much as I used to, and I live alone. It is evident from the stress marks in his plumage that his health has suffered. This is a heartbreaking decision, but I would be deeply grateful for Jerry to find a home better equipped for his needs, with an owner who can invest sufficient time to bond with him. I emphasize that the primary reason I am seeking to rehome Jerry is my diminishing capacity to care for him, and not his behavior, which I’m confident will improve with more social interaction and more time out of his cage.
Provide us with any additional information that may help a candidate show interest in your bird.
Jerry is quite endearing. He sways his head to music, and he may even try to imitate the vocals on a song. I feel terrible that I have not been able to spend enough time with him, but he can still be playful. He hops around the floor, shreds paper, and loves to cuddle. I massage his head and neck gently while we lounge on the couch. Toys such as twine and wooden popsicle sticks have relieved his boredom somewhat. He likes treats of apples, carrots, dried papaya, sesame seeds, safflower seeds, Nutri-Berries, and oats. In the past (but not recently) I have fortified his diet with a mixture of moistened oats, vitamin and calming powders, and coconut oil. He often softens his Zupreem pellets in a water bowl. He is accustomed to 10 hours of sleep per night and four hours of full spectrum UV light during the day. I add a liquid calcium supplement to his water, which he drinks from a dispenser attached to the side of his cage. Unfortunately I have not taken him for grooming (clipping wings and trimming nails and beak) in at least a year. I have given him plenty of wooden popsicle sticks to chew, and he has a coarsely textured perch in his cage, but I believe he would be happier and more comfortable if he were groomed regularly.

Jerry will make a delightful companion in the right home!
