Geronimo's Story
Meet Geronimo, a Blue and Gold Macaw with a huge personality, a sharp mind, and a deep desire for connection... once you earn his trust.

Geronimo is looking for an experienced macaw adopter who understands that progress with parrots is rarely linear. He has been through a lot in his life, including outliving his original owner and recently being returned from an adoption due to his noise levels. Because of this, trust does not come easily for him. He wants interaction and companionship very badly, but he can become easily overstimulated, especially when excited, which often leads to screaming. His adopter will need patience, consistency, and a willingness to help him continue learning healthier ways to communicate and self-regulate.

And yes... Geronimo is LOUD. Very loud. He has a high-pitched scream that he uses when frustrated, overstimulated, or overly excited. Homes with shared walls are absolutely not appropriate for him. His loudest moments are often when someone first enters his space. We believe this is because he gets so excited to see people that he struggles to contain himself. The good news is that once he settles in, he does calm down considerably. He is actively working on using "his words" instead of screaming when he wants space or is unhappy, and recently started saying "up" when he wants everyone to leave the room, something he picked up from hearing his foster family tell the dogs to "go up" the stairs.

Despite his challenges, Geronimo is an incredibly intelligent and engaging bird. He loves being involved in the action and genuinely enjoys interacting with people. He especially loves cartoons and has developed a serious obsession with Disney movies. According to Geronimo, Disney+ should absolutely be included in his adoption package, though he will settle for other cartoons if necessary. (For the record, Robin Hood is apparently far too scary. The crocodile guards are unacceptable.)

Geronimo has shown a preference toward men in his foster home, though we do not believe this is necessarily permanent or exclusive. In the past, he was hand tame, but currently he is slow to trust and adopters should expect to take things at his pace while building that relationship over time.

One of Geronimo's favorite ways to connect is showing off his "big wing" trick, where he stretches out one wing when asked. He is still learning to be consistent, but he is clearly trying. Underneath all the noise and overstimulation is a bird who truly wants connection and companionship, even if he is not yet sure how to handle those feelings appropriately.

Geronimo eats Zupreem Natural pellets along with fresh fruits and vegetables. His favorite treats include apples & the occasional piece of popcorn.

His future adopter should be prepared for a long-term commitment to helping him feel safe, understood, and secure. Geronimo is not an "easy" bird, but for the right person, helping him finally find stability and trust again could be incredibly rewarding.
