Be sure to routinely rotate toys to help prevent boredom. Parakeets acclimate well to average household temps but they should not drop below 65 degrees or exceed 80 degrees. Be cautious of extreme temperature change. The habitat should be placed off the floor in a well-lit area away from drafts and out of reach of other pets. Lighting: Birds need exposure to UV light to make vitamin D in their skin, which allows them to absorb dietary calcium. UV lights designed specifically for birds should shine on the habitat for 10-12hrs a day. Handling: Birds should be allowed out of their habitats and handled daily.
