Flock of 8 Pilgrim/Embden Geese's Story

We are helping to re-home a small flock of pet geese. These geese are accustomed to living in a barn but have free range access to a large yard and lake. They are not hand-tame, but are not aggressive and will approach if you sit down and ignore them. There are 8 geese in the flock, including

(8) Freckles - 3 year old male - white with grey spots (looks exactly like Grey-Duck but Freckles has a scar on his right leg where an old band got stuck and had to be cut away)
(4) Freckles Jr. - 2 year old female - mostly white with one grey neck spot
(5) Fiona - 2 year old female - brown - has angel wing (long flight feathers turn outward when her wings are at rest at her sides)
(6) Gracie - 2 year old female - brown
(3) Duck-Duck - 2 year old female - white with brown patches (knows her name)
(2) Grey-Duck - 2 year old male - white with grey spots (nearly identical to Freckles)
(1) Cous-Cous - 1 year old female - white with grey patch on her back
(7) Cypher - 1 year old male - solid white (was hand raised from hatching to fully feathered)

During the summer and winter, the flock sticks together, only separating briefly in the spring pairing off for mating season. Duck-Duck and Grey-Duck are a bonded pair with Cous-Cous joining them in 2025, the rest kind of go back and forth with who's paired with who. Cypher, being the youngest male, and having been raised indoors (with Cous-Cous who was hatched outside and never properly tamed down), did not fight for breeding rights in 2025. He is curious and will come close to see what you're doing, but is not tame to pick up or pet. Gracie's angel wing (both wings) may have a genetic factor as none of the birds raised with her and free-ranged on the same diet developed it. It is completely a cosmetic issue and does not cause her pain or impairment in any way.

None of these birds has any aggression history, aside from wing flapping, lowering heads and hissing when approached during breeding time. They have not charged people, but their human family shows no fear either, so if you turn and run, they may give chase. They do not chase the people they live with, even the 11 year old child (who frequently does the barn chores and collects their eggs in the spring/summer).

These geese are a cross between Embden and Pilgrim geese. For the most part when goslings hatch, the yellow ones are males and the darker grey marked ones are females. They are all related, and all eggs were removed in 2025 to prevent the flock from expanding. These birds free range all day and put themselves back in the barn when it gets dark. In three years only two birds have been lost to predators. These are good hardy birds, all have survived at least one Minnesota winter (barn is not heated).

We are looking for a permanent home for the whole flock where they will be pets, not food. The entire flock is $250 (will not separate). They must be picked up in Staples, Minnesota. This family is looking to re-home these geese before they move. Please help us find them a suitable safe haven. These geese can easily live over 20 years, they are full grown but very young.

Silver Dragon Pets's Adoption Policy
If you've fallen in love with one of our adoptable animals, please fill out and email an application (available on our website)! We do require a veterinary reference, and a copy of your lease or rental if you do not own your home, to make sure pets are welcome. Please allow us up to one week to confirm your references and see if you are a suitable match for the pet you've chosen. If you match, we will proceed with an in-person meeting so you can meet the animal and get to know them. Sometimes it's an instant match, and sometimes personalities may clash. This is also a wonderful time for your other pets to meet on neutral ground to see if they get along. If your face-to-face meeting works out and everything looks good, you will be asked to sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. If the animal is ready to go, he or she can go home with you right away. If we're still waiting on further veterinary care (animals undergoing more extensive medical care, or those with pending spay/neuter surgery appointments), we will bring the animal back to his/her foster home until they are cleared for adoption, at which time they can go home with you. Puppies and kittens adopted before six months old will require a (refundable) deposit, which will be refunded when proof of spay or neuter is provided prior to the age of seven months, and microchip has been registered to the new owner. This deposit is $50 for kittens and $100 for puppies. This is paid in addition to the adoption fee. All kittens and puppies 12 weeks or over will receive a rabies vaccination prior to adoption. All cats and dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, regardless of age.
