Caraxes and Syrax's Story

Hi, our names are Caraxes and Syrax! Here is what would work best for us in our new home:
-Personality: Active, vocal, social
-Lifespan: 7 - 15 years
-Can Live With Kids: Yes, but an adult must be the primary caregiver
-Experienced Bird Home: Encouraged, but not required.
-Can Live With Other Birds: Yes, parakeets are naturally flock birds and should never live alone. Syrax and Caraxes are bonded and will need to go home together.
-Additional information:
Syrax and Caraxes are a bonded pair of parakeets looking for their forever home. They are pretty social with people, though they will still need some time to warm up. They will need a nice roomy cage with different levels and perches as well as toys, swings and cuttlebone to keep their beak trimmed. They will also need plenty of birdseed, being careful not to leave a bowl full of empty seeds. Parakeet favorite fruit treats include apples, pears, melon, kiwi, berries, grapes and oranges. Parakeets are social and need to live in pairs or flocks. Parakeets are intelligent creatures capable of picking up speech, becoming finger trained and so much more! If you think Caraxes and Syrax are the birds for you, adopt today!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
