Callie (and Burd)'s Story

Introducing Callie! She is a female hybrid Goffin+Umbrella Cockatoo who is likely in her 20's. Callie especially loves dance party time with her foster family and best friend Burd, the Umbrella Cocaktoo. She also likes to practice target training. She occasionally entertains herself and impresses her foster family with a trick where she balances toys on her foot, drops them, and then quickly catches them in her beak.

Burd is a handsome umbrella cockatoo (also known as a white cockatoo or great-white crested cockatoo) who is full of personality and displays the typical intelligence, highly social nature, and comedic antics of his species. Though Burd has not been DNA sexed, he has very black eyes which are indicative of males for this species. This sweet parrot often entertains himself and his new foster family by playing with his favortie toy - a cockatoo-safe stainless steel cup. It's absolutely adorable how he holds the cup with his foot like a human holds a cup with their hand, and then plays hide and seek using the cup as a prop. Burd also loves dance party time and his current favorite song is Funky Town.

Burd and Callie are an adorable, fun-loving bonded pair. The cockatoos enjoy quality out of cage time together but also appreciate having dedicated personal space in neighboring habitats (caging). They must be adopted as to the same home.

A bit about Callie's and Burd's background: Callie and Burd are well loved by their most recent owners. Unfortunately, these owners are experiencing major life changes and have recognized that their parrots deserve a healthy, stable environment that they can no longer provide. Thus, the owners made the heartbreaking decision to surrender the birds to PEARL Parrot Rescue to find them a loving new home.

About the species: Umbrella Cockatoos are large, pirmarily white parrots with dramatic crest feathers and dusty (powder-down) feathers and Goffins are medium sized cockatoos. As a hybrid, Callie is considered to be medium-large sized. Cockatoos in general are typically highly social and can be very loud tending do best in an adult home with plenty of attention and enrichment. PEARL's minimum cage requirement for adoptable parrots is a habitat with a length and/or width that is 1.5x the parrot's wingspan so that the parrot has room to stretch its wings. Typically, an Umbrella Cockatoo's wingspan is about 56" and a Goffins' wing span is about 40". A recommended cage for Callie and Burd is a divided 80" wide by 40" wide habitat (cage) with 1" bar spacing.

Callie and Burd are AVAILABLE for adoption! If a PEARL parrot is listed on Petfinder, it is available for adoption as update our records regularly.

Adoption Fee: $700.00 for the pair

Age: Estimated to be in their 20's

Sex: Known female (Callie) and assumed male (Burd)

************************************************************************************************************************

PEARL Parrot Rescue is an all-volunteer and foster-based organization located in Pittsburgh, PA.
