Burd's Story

Meet Burd! Burd is very affectionate, curious, and loves attention. He likes to dance (especially to Mumford and Sons or anything with a "stomp-clap" rhythm) and will often join in with an adorable "ooooo" when his foster parents are singing along to their favorite songs. He loves keeping his foster dad company on a nearby perch while he works from home. One of his favorite activities is shower time, when he gets to perch on the shower curtain rod and preen in the steam bath. With lots of patience and consistency, Burd has been learning so much in his foster home! Some of his favoritethings to say are "step up," "hello," "Parker" (his foster dad's name), "night night," and "I love you!" He has also made lots of progress with target training!

Burd has shown a significant preference for men and his potential adopter will need to be a man.

A bit about Burd's background: Burd was well loved by his most recent owners. The owning family had been experiencing major life changes and recognized that Burd needed a healthy, stable environment that they could no longer provide. Thus, the owners made the heartbreaking decision to surrender Burd to PEARL Parrot Rescue to find a loving new home.

About the species: Umbrella Cockatoos are large, primarily white parrots with dramatic crest feathers and dusty (powder-down) feathers. Cockatoos in general are typically highly social and can be very loud. This species tends to do best in an adult home with plenty of attention and enrichment. The typical wingspan for an Umbrella Cockatoo is about 56" and PEARL's minimum cage requirement for adoptable parrots is that the length and/or width be 1.5x the parrot's wingspan so that they parrot has room to stretch its wings. A common cage for the species is a 64 wide x 32" deep habitat with 1" bar spacing.

Burd is AVAILABLE for adoption! If a PEARL parrot is listed on Petfinder, it is available for adoption as update our records regularly.

Please note - PEARL does not place large Macaws or Cockatoos in homes with small children.

Adoption Fee: $500.00

Age: Estimated to be in their 20's

Sex: Assumed male

************************************************************************************************************************

PEARL Parrot Rescue is an all-volunteer and foster-based organization located in Pittsburgh, PA. PEARL Parrot Rescue's Adoption Policy
Thank you for considering adopting your new feathered companion through PEARL Parrot Rescue. It is estimated that approximately 85% of birds purchased are rehomed or abandoned within the first two years of ownership. By considering adoption you are helping put an end to this crisis affecting companion parrots in the United States. In order to adopt from PEARL, all potential adopters must complete our three step adoption process. This includes an application, participation in our Standards of Care Class, and consent to a home check. Regardless of whether you have had or currently have birds, classes are required. We want to ensure that all our potential adopters are equipped with the knowledge to properly care for a parrot. During these classes we discuss our expectations on caging, diet, enrichment, training, and so much more.
