Buddy Cracker's Story

Meet Buddy Cracker! At roughly 17 years old, this little old lady is full of sass and spice - so don't let her special needs flag fool you. She has plenty of life left to live and has no problem letting everyone know. Buddy Cracker came to us as a surprise medical case and after a long road of various treatments and diagnostics, it was determined that this little lady has heart disease. Once we started her on medication, however, she bounced right back and has been charming her foster home ever since. She will step onto a finger when coaxed and likes to hop onto your shoulder to hang out there while you go about your day. As a reward for letting her use your shoulder as a perch, Buddy Cracker will chatter your ear off with her impressive vocabulary of sounds, words, and her signature evil witch's cackle. She has been building up her stamina in her foster home by trying out her flying skills and has finally reached a point where she is able to fly short distances without being totally out of breath. She would love to continue practicing this in her forever home. Because of her existing medical condition, Buddy Cracker takes medication daily and will need to continue this life-long. Luckily for her prospective home, her foster family has perfected medicating her and she now takes her meds without too much fuss! Despite her rough start, Buddy Cracker has bloomed into such a character, and we expect her personality will only continue to grow. Adoption fee - $150.

Please note, due to the quantity of emails that we receive, simply "starting an inquiry" will not receive a reply. Please email info@staravian.org if you have a specific question. The first step is to fill out an Adoption Application, which can be found on our website. All birds are in volunteer foster homes, and a meeting may not be set up until you are approved to adopt. Our adoption team will process your application and set up a home visit. All current pets (including any birds cockatiel and larger) must be up to date on yearly wellness exams and any state mandated vaccines. We do not ship birds, and have a 100-mile adoption radius (using St. Louis Lambert Airport as the start point). We do not adopt to breeders. We are not able to adopt birds into homes that use Teflon product or smoke due to toxicity dangers.
