Brussels's Story

Meet Brussels!
This 42-year-old Yellow-naped Amazon is a cool, chill old dude who's starting to come into his own. After spending years mostly confined to a cage following his owner's passing, Brussels has been slowly rediscovering the joys of being a parrot in foster care, and it's been a joy to watch him blossom.

Brussels now enjoys spending his evenings out on a swing or platform perch, hanging near people and listening to the conversation. He isn't a fan of hands coming toward him, but he will accept gentle head scritches through the bars from just about anyone. He also takes treats nicely from hands and makes a satisfied "mmmmm" when given a pistachio, which is his absolute favorite.

This mellow guy has started to explore his toys, chew up wooden blocks, and dig pistachios out of his foraging ball. He has nibbled on mixed vegetables and is slowly adjusting to life with other birds nearby. He's mostly quiet, not overly messy, and content to be part of the background bustle of a home.

Brussels would love to continue this journey in a calm, patient forever home that can appreciate his steady progress and give him the space to keep blooming at his own pace. Adoption fee - $400

STAR - St. Louis Avian Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please note, due to the quantity of emails that we receive, simply "starting an inquiry" will not receive a reply. Please email info@staravian.org if you have a specific question. The first step is to fill out an Adoption Application, which can be found on our website. All birds are in volunteer foster homes, and a meeting may not be set up until you are approved to adopt. Our adoption team will process your application and set up a home visit. All current pets (including any birds cockatiel and larger) must be up to date on yearly wellness exams and any state mandated vaccines. We do not ship birds, and have a 100-mile adoption radius (using St. Louis Lambert Airport as the start point). We do not adopt to breeders. We are not able to adopt birds into homes that use Teflon product or smoke due to toxicity dangers.
