Bonnie's Story
Meet Bonnie and Shawna.
Bonnie and Shawna are a bonded pair of elderly cockatiels looking for a quiet and loving retirement home. They are sweet, gentle girls who prefer a calm environment, steady routines, and a person who understands that older birds need patience and comfort above all else.

Both girls can step up once they are out of their cage. They are not overly comfortable with unfamiliar people approaching their cage, although once they come out, they settle down nicely and enjoy being near their person. They sing a little, but not a lot, and Shawna is especially proud of her very dramatic hiss.

Bonnie and Shawna are slowly overcoming their belief that pellets are poison. They are also adjusting to bathing. Mist baths were confusing at first, and showers were even more puzzling, but as they settle in, they have started to enjoy the idea of getting clean.

They love cardboard toys and gentle chewing. They are not fast toy destroyers, but if you give Bonnie a piece of cardboard, she cannot resist taking a few enthusiastic bites. Both girls like rope perches, and their favorite is a Planet Pleasures rope boing stretched horizontally across the cage. They also enjoy swings, although Bonnie needs a swing with a rope or textured surface because her balance is not perfect.

Both girls can fly to some degree. Shawna usually reaches the place she aimed for, even though she is not a strong flier. Bonnie tries very hard, although her flights often end with a gentle crash to the floor. With practice, she may regain a little strength and be able to make short, safe trips from point A to point B. Bonnie shows signs of previous wing injuries, and Shawna has a heart murmur, so both will benefit from a thoughtful home that understands their limits.

Bonnie and Shawna startle easily, although this has been improving steadily as they have settled in. A calm home would suit them well, although a moderately active home could work with a little patience and time for adjustment.

These two are sweet, gentle birds who want nothing more than a peaceful place to live out their golden years. They enjoy sitting on a swing near where their person spends time, riding on shoulders, and asking for occasional scritches from someone they trust.

If you have room in your heart for a pair of older cockatiels, Bonnie and Shawna would love to meet you.

Adoption Fee; $120 for both birds
