Bixby's Story
Meet Bixby
Bixby is a thoughtful and curious African Grey who is about 27 years old. She takes a little time to warm up, but once she feels safe, her personality really starts to shine. She isn't scared, just tentative at first, and she has been interacting more and more in her foster home. Bixby can step up and is comfortable around people, although she usually needs a little time before she will step up for someone new.

Bixby enjoys talking and makes plenty of little beeps and boops throughout the day. She says "Are ya hungry" very often, along with "Good girl," variations of that phrase, and even "Baby bird." She also purrs and meows, and has asked the family dog if she needs "to go out." Her foster expects even more phrases to appear as she continues to settle in.

So far, Bixby has been a relatively quiet bird. She has not screamed in foster care, and prefers soft chatter, beeps, and her frequent questions about whether anyone is hungry.

Bixby eats Harrison's Coarse and is absolutely obsessed with Nutriberries. Veggies are not her favorite, although she enjoys throwing them with enthusiasm. She likes foraging and staying busy with toys. Braided seagrass has been her top choice, along with plastic puzzle toys. She loves solving puzzles and waits patiently while they are being set up so she can get right to work.

Bixby comes out of her cage easily. Sometimes she steps out on her own and goes straight to the playtop. Other times, placing a Nutriberry on the playtop is all the encouragement she needs. Bathing is not her favorite, but she tolerates it just fine. She has not flown in foster care, and it is unclear if she is able to.

Bixby arrived at STAR without any of her signature red tail feathers. A few have tried to return, although she has plucked them so far. Even without the red, she is adorable and full of charm. Once she trusts you, she likes to wave on cue, explore new spaces with gentle encouragement, and show off her vocal skills, including a surprisingly accurate cat fight rendition.

Bixby will thrive in a home that enjoys keeping an African Grey's mind busy. She is inquisitive, bright, and will do well with someone who has the time and interest to keep her engaged and supported.

Adoption Fee: $600
