Mary's Story

Meet Mary!

Mary is a beautiful 9-year-old Shetland cross sheep with a gentle personality and some of the softest wool you could ever hope to get your hands on!

This sweet girl is quite shy around people and prefers to take her time getting to know someone new. She isn't likely to come running up to greet you and may keep her distance until she's feeling comfortable. but once you've earned a little of her trust, she'll let you give her some pets -- and trust us, petting this incredibly soft girl is a pretty wonderful reward!

An easygoing sheep who appreciates a predictable routine, Mary does very well with the daily rhythm of life here at Sanctuary One. She currently shares her space with other sheep and goats and generally gets along well with her pasture companions. Because of her smaller size, age, and gentle temperament, she tends to fall somewhere in the middle or lower end of the herd hierarchy.

At 9 years old, she's doing very well and has no known medical concerns or special care needs beyond routine maintenance. As a wool sheep, she requires regular shearing to keep her comfortable and her fleece healthy. We think she'd be a lovely addition to a peaceful flock with friendly companions and people who understand that building trust with a shy animal takes time.

Because sheep are social animals, Sanctuary One requires our sheep to be adopted with at least one other sheep unless they're joining a home with an existing sheep flock. Having the companionship of other sheep is an important part of keeping this sweet girl happy and comfortable.

Mary doesn't need to be the center of attention to be a wonderful companion. With a calm home, some friendly sheep by her side, and a family willing to let her build confidence at her own pace, we think she'll be a lovely addition to someone's flock!
