George's Story

George lived with another pig that was slaughtered in front of him. George was terrified and escaped his enclosure. After a few days, George returned. He dug up his friend’s buried head and carried it for days. It is heartbreaking proof of how deeply pigs bond, love, and grieve. No different from Orcas, who mourn the loss of their babies and carry them for days.

The owner of George viewed his act as disgusting, but she felt that because George was a mini pig, he was a pet and deserved to be rescued, unlike his slaughtered friend, who was a “farm breed pig.”

George was understandably terrified of people when he first arrived at the sanctuary. Even after everything he has been through, he is so gentle and kind. He loves head scratches, and gets excited to see people or other animals. He loves his piglet friend Paulie, and likes to talk to the cows through the fence. He is one years old, neutered, and so so sweet. He deserves the most loving home, and we’re sure anyone that comes to meet him will fall in love with him the way we have.

Fill out an adoption application here: https://heartwoodhaven.org/adoption-form/
