Dexter's Story

Dexter spent the first years of his life fighting to survive. On a neglected 50-acre property with no real shelter, clean food, or water, he and a herd of pigs were left to fend for themselves. They lived among piles of trash, often seen weaving through traffic on a busy nearby road. Despite numerous reports and law enforcement visits, help didn’t come until nearly a year after we rescued a piglet named Monty from the same property.

That long-awaited call finally came: the animals had been abandoned, and the Sheriff’s office asked if we could step in. When we arrived, only four pigs remained. Dexter was one of them.

Late that night, we returned to quietly bring them to safety. We found all four huddled together in a makeshift shelter. They were exhausted, dirty, but still trusting. We gently closed the gate, backed up the trailer, and brought them home.

Now safe at our sanctuary, Dexter is experiencing kindness and care for the very first time. He’s a bit shy at first, but his sweet personality is beginning to shine. He loves exploring his surroundings and cuddling up with his siblings for a nap.

Dexter is ready for the next step in his journey and is looking for a loving forever home where he can continue to grow, heal, and just be a pig. Could that home be yours?

Fill out an adoption form here: https://heartwoodhaven.org/adoption-form/
