Castor's Story
Meet Castor -- or Cassie!

Castor, better known around here as Cassie, is a curious 1.5-year-old Pygmy goat who was named after one of the Gemini twins because of when she was born. She's currently part of a large herd and, like many of her herd mates, is more goat-social than people-social -- although being very food motivated certainly gives you a good way to start winning her over!

Cassie is curious about what's happening around her and gets along well with the other goats in her herd. She tends to fall a little lower in the herd hierarchy, but she doesn't have any particular social conflicts and does well living as part of a group.

Cassie was adopted once before with her brother but eventually returned after the pair developed a little too much enthusiasm for their family's apple trees. We can't exactly hold that against her -- eating things you wish they wouldn't is a pretty classic goat activity! Her future family should be prepared for all of the curiosity, mischief, and creative landscaping decisions that can come with sharing your property with goats.

You may notice that one of Cassie's ears has a distinctive split. While she was in her previous home, her ear tag became caught on something and tore through her ear. The injury has healed and doesn't cause her any problems; it just gives her a slightly unique look!

Cassie has lived on pasture before, although she has spent the last few months on a dry lot. If she's going to a home with pasture access, she'll need to be gradually reintroduced to fresh forage so her digestive system has time to adjust.

Because goats are highly social animals, Sanctuary One requires our goats to be adopted in pairs unless they are joining a home with an existing goat herd. Cassie may take some time and plenty of treats to build a relationship with her people, but we've seen goats from this group blossom with more individual attention after adoption. With patience, good snacks, and some goat friends by her side, we think curious little Cassie has everything she needs to thrive in her next home!
