Astro and Finn's Story

Astro and Finn are yucatan pigs, it's a breed of pig that lives on the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. They are native to a tropical environment, so they don't have much hair. You can see from their photos they are mostly naked. One of the most common questions we get is if they get cold in the PNW. The answer is no, as long as they have a nice cozy bed to snuggle in with lots of hay.

Astro and Finn are very friendly and sweet. They love to meet new people. Astro has a signature move that he does whenever he greets you, to rub himself along your leg, kind of like a cat.

They like people and children, but they do prefer kids who are calm. They will even bring them presents, like tree branches when they make friends.

Pigs are incredibly intelligent, they are the 4th smartest animal on Earth and have the IQ of a 4 year old child. Astro and Finn have to be adopted together and would do great in a home with other pigs or other farmed animals. Our requirements for adopting pigs is that you must have secure escape-proof fencing and a minimum of a 1/4 acre outdoors for them. You also have to be zoned to have pigs.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out our adoption application:

https://heartwoodhaven.org/adopt-an-animal/
