Meet Vindaloo (bonded to Samosa)

India and Taja were rescued from a shelter in Quebec. They, along with many other guinea pigs, were surrendered to the shelter by their owner because they had too many animals. India and Taja are Mama Tot‘s older daughters. This guinea pig family came to us via One Last Chance, and Freedom Drivers volunteers, and we’re very thankful for all the wonderful people who donate their time to transport rescued animals all across the country.

When they arrived, India and Taja were only about four months old, but it was confirmed at their vet visit that they were both pregnant. We were devastated that these poor little girls were going to have babies. They’re just babies themselves!
India gave birth to a single baby, Samosa, on July 8th, 2023. Taja gave birth to two babies later that day – Tandoori and Vindaloo. When the babies were a month old, they and their moms had a vet visit for health checks and to confirm the babies’ genders. All the guinea pigs were given a clean bill of health, and they are now ready to find their forever homes!

Samosa and Vindaloo are the two boys, and we are asking they be adopted as a pair. Due to their extremely shy nature, they need a quiet home without small children.
Like most guinea pigs, they're afraid of loud noises and quick movements, but these two are extra skittish. Their foster mom let us know that even after all the time they've been with her, she still hasn't been able to calm their skittishness and biting. She describes them as "The jumpiest little munchkins I've ever met!" If you leave your hands near Samosa and continuously offer gentle touches to him, he will eventually stop jumping and running away and accept some attention. But the next day, you have to start all over again. Vindaloo has not allowed this at all. As for the biting, we believe they think you're giving them snacks and they immediately nibble. They don't ever bite in a malicious or aggressive way, just in a curious and playful way. Their moms were (and mostly still are) the same skittish personalities, so we think that despite being handled every day from birth, Samosa and Vindaloo simply have extreme fear ingrained into them. These behaviours are unfortunately not conducive to being handled by children. We were hoping that with lots of handling and the passing of time, they'd learn that humans are not so scary, but it seems that this is just the way they're going to be, and that's okay. They will just need a very understanding adopter who will see past their fear and give them the best life they can live.

Samosa and Vindaloo have been provided a large living space in their foster home, and they can often be seen popcorning and zooming around the enclosure. They both love their daily veggies - favourites being romaine lettuce and dandelion leaves.

Because of their curly fur, Samosa and Vindaloo will occasionally need eye lubrication to keep their eyes clear and free from stray fur. The product is Optixcare, and it can be purchased at your vet, or on line.
