Meet Potato!

This poor man was surrendered to ALDR with a Guinea pig after changing hands many times because many didn't understand the care that is involved in these small critters. He was in a tiny cage with the guinea pig- no dust, no chinchilla food, no levels, no toys, dull coats, curled over nails and underweight.

Chinchillas are arboreal, nocturnal rodents that need a lot of space to climb and jump around. They must be kept inside and must not be exposed to temperatures over 80. They must have access to a dust bath, fresh water and hay at all times. They love and need to chew things to keep their teeth trimmed. They will chew through baseboards, cardboard and electrical wires so must have a safe enclosure. If they were to get sick- most vets do not treat them so having a regular veterinarian that is familiar with these guys is a must!

Potato has come a long way. His foster mom can now pick him up and pet him but he is not cuddly per say. He will nibble fingers if put thru the bars so do not recommend small children in the home. He seems to love to interact and watch the dogs in the house. ?

Chinchilla experience is preferred. The adoption fee also includes his full cage set up (not pictured).

All of our adoptable rescues have a clean bill of health (unless otherwise stated), are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (age-appropriately), tested (FeLV/FIV for cats, HW for dogs over 6 months of age), current on flea and heartworm prevention and microchipped. This is all included in their adoption fee that goes in as a donation to help us cover their medical costs and continue to help other animals in need.
