Meet Athena
Athena is a senior green iguana looking for a loving home where she can live out her golden years.
Athena came into our care 2 years ago when her owner could no longer care for her and had concerns about her health. While we will never know her whole story, we do know she had a rough past and was not provided adequate care as a young iguana, which lead to moderate MBD (Metabolic Bone Disease). Her hips, tail, and skull are the most prominent signs of her MBD and it does limit her ability to climb and walk around. Athena also lost her tail at some point in the past and has grown back a shorter tail in its place. Despite her poor husbandry in the past, Athena does not require any specialized care, other than making sure her basking area and water are easily accessible for her.
With Athena being at least 10 years old, she is looking for a retirement home to settle into for the rest of her life. She would love a space where she can snuggle up in a cozy spot (fleece blankets are her favorite!) and watch the trees sway in the breeze out the window. She's a little nervous around dogs and cats but could likely become comfortable with a lower energy dog/cat companion during supervised interactions.
