Chalupa Chinchilla Chinchilla Wolcott, IN

We have a standard grey male chinchilla that is looking for his new home. His name is Chalupa! He came in to the rescue a bit ago and is now available for adoption! We have down that Chalupa was born around 6/2017, which makes him right about 2 years old. Great time to add him to your family!

Chalupa’s color is called standard grey, which is the classic color in chinchillas – a greyish color over his back, with a white belly.

Chalupa is an energetic chin, he likes to run around and hide when let out for playtime, so he definitely needs to be kept an eye on (or kept in a chin-proof room so he can go where he pleases). He’s a sweet boy. In his previous home, he loved jumping on his mom’s head during playtime, and that’s definitely something he enjoys, so hopefully he can have that in his new home as well! Right now, he’s in a foster home in Chicago, getting a little more one-on-one attention!

Here’s what his foster home has to say about him:

Chalupa eats a lot. That’s mostly all he does! If you put your head on the cage, he will come and play with your hair a bit. He likes being petted occasionally but he will run away at the sight of your hand unless he knows you are going to pet him. He is very adventurous so letting him out of the cage is done best in a room with no place for him to hide or get stuck. He is afraid of heights and won’t jump off anything that is too high. He will walk into your hands if you hold them out in the cage like you are holding food or water in your hand. He only likes normal cheerios and he loves taking trips. He is actually a really great traveling buddy. He also really likes songs like Surrender by Natalie Taylor, Jealous by the Labrinth and Best Part of Her by Daniel Cesar and most Broadway musical songs. He is more active when the lights are off and really likes sloth or hedgehog stuffies.

This chinchilla is currently living alone, and we do not know if he gets along with other chinchillas.

This chinchilla would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had chinchillas before, as long as they understand that she is more on the active side.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Mazuri pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. She will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

Chalupa is currently being fostered in Chicago, IL, and will need to be brought back to the rescue in Hammond, IN for his adoption. Please allow time for transport if you are inquiring about Chalupa.

The adoption fee for Chalupa is $75
