Meet August
This is handsome August, about 9 years old. His adoption fee is $75.
You may have heard about the hoarding situation in southern Illinois involving a large number of dogs found in filth and squalor in a private home. As we've done in the past and will continue to do in the future, PAWS stepped up for these dogs and agreed to take in a significant number of them from Franklin County Animal Control. As a result, we are full to overflowing with deserving animals who just want the love and security they so richly deserve. The dogs are under-socialized but we've found they are responding well to gentle care, warm blankets and plenty of good food. The community support has been tremendous and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Now the real work begins: finding homes for each and every one of the dogs entrusted to PAWS. In conjunction with a national effort known as "Clear the Shelter", the Franklin County dogs will be adopted out to approved adopters for only $75. This reduced adoption fee does not apply to any animals other than those brought north from Franklin County. If one of the dogs is currently on medication, it will be sent home to continue treatment. Please know these pups will need time, patience and lots of love to acclimate into their new lives. Having seen the progress made so far, we know in our hearts that they will get there.
All of our animals are provided with age appropriate vaccinations, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption.
PAWS has added the H3N2/H3N8 combo flu vaccine to its shot protocol. Every dog is being vaccinated upon intake. Depending on how long they're here with us, they may received a second vaccination but if adopted right away, we urge adopters to get a second flu shot for their new family member to ensure as much protection against the flu as possible.
To meet our incredible dogs and offer them the love they deserve, stop by PAWS on Friday, Saturday or Sunday from 10 - 4 PM, call us at 217-243-7297. We do applications in person or over the phone. You can also see pictures on our Facebook page, PAWS Jackson.
