Suzy Q Dachshund & Chihuahua Mix League City, TX

Suzy Q can sometimes snap when she is afraid so she must be in a home with no children under 12. She must also be watched closely when strangers come to the house. But once Suzy Q gets to know you, she will love you forever. The thing she likes most in the world is to be held on your lap or cuddled next to you on the couch. Suzy Q’s estimated birthday is 03/24/11 and she is a brown Dachshund with a little bit of black markings.

Suzy Q was found searching for food around a big dumpster behind an office building. Even though the big noisy trucks coming to pick up the trash were scary, it was worth the risk because she was so hungry. That probably explains why she still runs for the door to the house if she is outside when any large noisy truck comes around.

She is a very special dog since she is certified as a service dog. Another very special thing about her is that she instinctively became a seizure alert dog. When her owner was about to have a seizure, Suzy Q would frantically jump up on her until she sat down in a safe place so she wouldn’t hurt herself when she had the seizure. Suzy Q knew the seizure was coming even before her owner did.

Even though soon after Suzy Q was adopted her owner discovered she had cancer, Suzy Q received an abundance of love and attention. Since her owner was so sick she and Suzie Q were constant companions. Because of this, Suzy Q didn’t have much activity so let’s just say she is now a little “fluffy”. But she is watching what she eats and she has already lost some weight. It will be very important for the person who adopts her to continue with her new diet regimen so that she can be healthy again.

Unfortunately, Suzy Q’s owner passed away and we are looking for a very special new home for her. She loves being with other dog friends to run outside with. But they must be nice to her and about her size. She weighs about 19 pounds right now, but she has a goal of 15 pounds so she can have her girly figure back. She used to chase cats outside while going on her walks, but now she realizes that cats can live inside the house also and she is not supposed to chase them. Sometimes she forgets, but she is trying to change and is doing really well.

She loves to be around her people a lot, so the best home for her would be one where someone is at home a good part of the time. Even though Suzy Q is a little sad right now, she would love to have a new family where she can have the love and attention she deserves.
Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home.

Adoption fee for this dog is $175.

Adoptions are held on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Clear Lake Petco, 2410 Bay Area Boulevard. All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas. Since all of our dogs are in foster homes, an individual dog may not be at our weekly Adoption Event due to conflict with a foster's schedule.
