Meet Hershey

HERSHEY: 8 Year Old Chocolate Female 85 Pounds

Hershey has been with her current owner for 3 years. The owner was older and the other day had to go to the hospital and the doctor told the family he would not be able to go back to his home but needed to go to an assisted living home. Hershey’s owner did not have any family in the area that could take and care for her; so his daughter who lives in San Diego called Lab Rescue to see if we could take Hershey into our program. We went to meet Hershey and found her a foster home until we find her a new last home.

This is what we know about Hershey:

Hershey has been owned by the current owner for the past three years. He got Hershey from his neighbor who no longer could care for a large dog. For the last three years Hershey has been an inside/outside dog and has always slept inside. She was not left alone for long periods as the owner was retired but when he had the medical issues she was left alone at the home for long days. She is a very smart girl and knows: paw / shake, Sit, Stay, Down, Come and fetch. (Hershey loves to play with her toys.) She loves to go for walks and loves to swim. She is a bit out of shape as the owner was not able to walk her for the last few months but the current foster is taking her out for 2-3 walks a day. Hershey loves to go for car rides but can be a little unsettled at first. She loves to play fetch, loves to watch and loves loves to go for walks. She was in a home with another female dog at one time and the owner said she was indifferent about cats but at the foster’s she goes crazy when she sees the cat. She walks well on a leash; she does not know heel but she does not pull, she is very easy to handle. She takes treats ok, not real gentle but not like a snapping turtle, like some Labs. She has been around kids of all ages but feel she should be placed in a home with older kids.

From the foster:

We spent the night in San Francisco and Hershey was well behaved and fine with the other dogs. She picks up her leash and will bring it to us when she wants to go on a walk. She is in very good health and is one happy girl. We will be sorry to see her go!

Hershey is spayed, updated on her shots, heartworm negative, microchipped, full blood panel and has no health issues. She does need to go for regular walks to get in better shape and lose a few pounds! (But don’t we all!)

She is located in Menlo Park.

If you are looking for a sweet girl, please email Rescue Rep Liz at liz@jobshopsf.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
