Meet Murphy

Murphy, neutered Bouvier, owner died

FINAL UPDATE : Murphy and Annie remained with me. Murphy passed away 9/02/2019 at age almost 13 years old.

PREVIOUS HISTORY :

Murphy and his pack-mate Annie came to rescue because their owner died and no one in the extended family wanted them. the story in longer form is on Annie's page. they have been together all of Annie's life, and I want them to be adopted together.

Murphy was bred by one of our very most respected and responsible breeders. She has covered all of his expenses and also Annie's. (Annie is a "grandchild", ie her mother was bred by this breeder). As a puppy he was fairly high energy and high prey drive.

Murphy came to us quite overweight (not as much so as Annie), and I have begun his weight reduction program and fitness program. He's already livelier.

Murphy takes a little time to warm up to a stranger, especially a male human. He does a lot of barking at first, but he will warm up soon enough. It took him a couple of hours to decide I (female) was a new friend. could take longer with a male person, though this could depend on that person's behavior.

He's a very nice dog and will be very handsome. Learning to be a house-dog after several years as neglected backyard dog.

Murphy and Annie need to be adopted together. They are very bonded.

I will add photos and more info later on. just wanted to do a preliminary now.

Happy New Year and may all your Bouviers be black or grey or fawn.

update 2/05/2016
Murphy's obesity has been reduced by over 20 lbs. at this point he's still a bit plumper than ideal, but no longer unhealthily obese. He's a very nice dog, easy to live with, easy to walk. And now pretty well into the habit of peeing soon as I take him outdoors.

update 2/24/2016
Murphy is down to 95 lbs (from intake 127 lbs) and he's feeling good.
also he did well with visitors, man and woman, two weekends ago. going for a walk is best introduction. treats help.
Murphy has been diagnosed to have mild tendency for blood clotting. no treatment recommended and not a significant risk to his health.

update 3/27/16
now at healthy lean weight. a happy dog. barks when excited, but not an improperly aggressive dog. loves being petted, especially getting his butt scratched.

update 5/06/2016
I've been getting requests from adopters very distant from my home (near Sacramento, CA. I do NOT do long distance adoptions. so don'[t ask
I've been getting requests to adopt only Murphy, without Annie. He is really bonded to Annie and should not be separated from her. Don't ask : I won't do it.
finally, please e-mail me directly to pamgreen at cal dot net. don't use the built in petfinder form because the resulting e-mail crashes my e-mail program.
thank you for observing these rules.

update 7/06/2016
I gave Murphy a summer hair cut. it's been too damn hot here week before now. He's a happy dog, asks for petting, smiles a lot. easy to live with.

update 10/7/2016
once more I remind everyone , do NOT ask to adopt this dog if you live at a great distance from the area of Sacramento, CA and do NOT ask to adopt Murphy without Annie or Annie without Murphy.

update 4/07/2017
I'm now pretty sure Murphy shouldn't be in a home with a cat. he finds the sight of one too exciting.
