Meet Jinga

My name is Jinga. I am a dapper older gentleman but don’t count me out as when the mood strikes me I enjoy running through the yard, rolling around and playing with toys. These are all things that I did not get a chance to enjoy for the first 8 years of my life. Why you ask? My ‘former’ owners used me as breeding stock due to my exceptional coloring. Just between you and me, being handsome has it’s drawbacks.? I was disposed of when they realized I was going blind (they weren’t the brightest as I hid the fact that I was going blind for awhile - they said it happened overnight). When I was brought into rescue, it was found that I have PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy). Please don’t feel sorry for me as I get along great without sight - my sense of smell is great (much to the chagrin of my foster mom). Also, I have learned to map out my residence with my other senses as long as the furniture doesn’t get totally rearranged or when I wake groggy - I am sure everyone can relate to that.

I love laying in the yard and sunning myself and snuggling with my foster mom (I make a great TV watching buddy). I do not like being kenneled but they tell me it’s for my own good but I do like the peanut butter kong I get when I am kenneled. If you are wondering about stairs for me, my foster home blocks off the stairs in the house for my safety but there are a couple of steps to the outside. I am great at coming up them but my foster brother has back issues so I use his ramp to get outside. I am doing good at potty training though that darn 4th of July holiday set me back some (those loud noises scared me and I was afraid to even go outside for awhile) but I have been known to try to mark in the house so my foster mom keeps me in this thing called a belly band while in the house. My foster mom is working with me on trying to curb that bad habit. I do know where the back door is and will ring the bells when I want to go out.

Currently, I am living with 4 other dogs of various sizes and a cat. I get along well with all of them. Right now, I am enjoying my freedom and the love of my foster home until my happy ending comes. Will you be my happy ending?

Jinga was used as a breeder dog for 8 yrs (born early 2006) of his life. He was surrendered to a vet clinic when they realized he was blind. We rescued him and he has seen an eye specialist. Jinga has PRA (progressive retina atrophy). There is nothing that can be done to fix his eyes.

Jinga is sweet, social, good with dogs and is doing fantastic learning his way around with out his sight. He has been in his foster home for several days (3/1/14) and has not had any accidents :)

No small kids due to his size, age and vision loss.

All of our dogs are current on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, fecal tested, heartworm tested, and they are all on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.

The adoption process is an application, a vet reference, a home visit, and a lifetime contract. The requested adoption donation for this dog is $275___.

We are willing to adopt out-of-state, contingent on our ability to complete a home visit, but you must travel to Omaha to complete the adoption. We do not transport or ship our dogs.
