Our Mission

J9's Doberman and Bunny Rescue is a small scale, registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are a no-kill, foster based Dog and Rabbit rescue that specializes in the Doberman breed and Bunnies, located in Detroit Michigan.

Rescue efforts started single handedly by the founder, Jeannine (AKA J9), back in 2014. She has rescued, rehabilitated, and re-homed dozens of dogs, cats, guinea-pigs, and rabbits. We do not discriminate against any animal, or dog breed; however we primarily work in placing Dobermans and Bunnies in to loving homes. We are also highly involved with TNR of feral/stray cats in Detroit and surrounding areas.

As oddly as it may sound some of our Dobermans are found as strays running the streets of Detroit. They have been pulled from high kill shelters, taken in from other rescues, abandoned older dogs used as "Puppy-mill Breeding Stock", and by owners surrendering for various reasons. Many of the dogs we rescue come to us in very very poor health and often are Heart-worm positive. Our rabbits have a similar past; sadly most are owner surrenders after the novelty of having a cute little "Easter Bunny" wears off.

All of our financial support for food and veterinary care comes from donations and fundraising.

We are always in need of financial support, donations, and more foster homes.

Adoption Policy

We strive to guarantee that the right dog goes to the right home. If you would like to adopt a dog or bunny from J9's Doberman & Bunny Rescue, here is what you need to do.

PLEASE NOTE: Because we are a small group of volunteers who do this in our spare time, our adoption process can take up to a few weeks. We appreciate your patience.

Send an email to j9srescue@gmail.com: Inquire about a dog or bunny listed on the website. We will make arrangements to meet the dog you are interested in, this may be in the form of a play date or home visit or at one of our local adoption events.

Complete an Adoption Application: We would like to get to know you better to make sure the dog you are interested in will be a suitable companion.

Interview with one of our adoption coordinators: While reviewing your application, we may have questions for you to help explain your application. We love our dogs and want to be sure you’ll love and care for them as much as we do. Not all applications will be approved.

Veterinarian Check: We will need your current veterinarian’s name and phone number in order to verify that your current or even previous animals have been properly cared for.

Home Visit: All approved applications will require a home visit. Please note that just because the application was approved, does not mean the home check will be approved. Our home checks usually take about a week to coordinate. One of our approved volunteers will come to your home to help assess the safety and security of your home. We can point out weaknesses in your fencing, your doors, point out poisonous plants and other hazards you may not have thought of.

Foster to Adopt: We encourage all potential adopters to foster the dog they are interested in before making the lifelong commitment. We like to offer you a week or two to foster before finalizing the adoption.

Adoption: If you have been approved for adoption, we will contact you to let you know. We will send you the Adoption Contract to be filled out and signed. Adoption fees can be paid in cash, check, credit card or paypal.
