Meet Zorro

SEX: male
WEIGHT: 3.5 kg / 7.5 pounds
DOB : 26/12/2016

Zorro, along with 10 other small dogs, joined Mattie's Place from a backyard breeder that authorities were working with to remove 100's of dogs from the premise.

Despite a difficult life, these dogs are all the very sweetest little beans you could ever meet. They are learning how to co-exist as companion dogs and are shy and reserved and still working through housetraining, but gosh, they are full of love and we are still watching them blossom each day as they learn to "dog".

Though every dog will bite, there is zero aggression or any signs of anything mean with any of these dogs. They are tolerant of their new lifestyles in foster homes though remain independent.

They can be the only dog or join a resident dog, though because they are all so small no dogs over 20 pounds in the home.

The energy of small children would likely not bring them joy so 12+ kids only. Can they be around visiting children, certainly.

Access to a backyard would be best as they are still not great on leash and prefer to potato over walking mostly and for continued housetraining access to a quick outside would work in their favour.

They have all had their vetting brought up to date including spay/neuters and dental cleanings with extractions of teeth as needed. Each of these dogs will likely require more teeth to be removed in the next 2-3 years as their dental health start was not a great one, so keep that in mind for your adoption budgeting.

Zorro does have some mild stiffness in his right front leg but seems to work itself out as he get moving. It was noticed after his groom and it's nothing we will be following up with at this time.

They will all require regular grooming, so keep that in mind also for your budget when considering adoption. With that said, though they are dogs that need to be groomed, I do not claim, endorse, suggest or hint at, that any of our dogs are hypoallergenic, low shed or no-shed. If you need a non-shedding dog or have dog allergies, please do not apply for them on that merit as I can't risk any of them being returned because they don't meet that ultimate expectation.

If you have a home full of patience, kindness and compassion this little bundle of love might be a great fit for you

Not cat tested, though I can't imagine them having any cat issues.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Zorro is a very sweet, tiny little boy!

He was a little skittish at first and would run away from us backwards (unbelievably cute). He still startles very easily though so we are careful not be make sudden moves, loud noises etc. around him.

He does not play with toys (we have tried stuffies, balls etc. but we don’t think he knows what to do with them).

He did not bark at all at first, but he has finally found his little voice. He only barks when other dogs are barking though. That’s pretty much it for noise (except for his snoring!). He is a Velcro dog with me! He follows me around the house wherever I go (but not my husband).

He gets up around 8-8:30 a.m. and we take him immediately outside for his first pee. We go for a walk around 9-9:30 so he can poop. We walk a minimum of 3 times a day (morning, mid-day, and evening) – with frequent backyard breaks in between. He does most of his business on the walks. He has had some accidents in the house (occasional poop).

He loves his bed, blankets, and the couch (he is quite the snuggle bug).

He does cuddle sometimes and kisses our hands. He prefers to be close, but not on our laps. He can be picked up though with no problem and held. He also does not seem to like crossing thresholds, so we lift him over them.

He is fed twice a day (1/4 cup each feeding) and he loves his meals! We soak his kibble in water and then give it to him on a plate (he has trouble eating out of a bowl). We give him a couple of small treats during the day (especially when he goes outside to pee/poop) but he is not treat motivated. He prefers to take the treats off the floor rather than from our hands.

We have not had him in a crate, but we think he would do fine. At bedtime, we create a little comfy ‘den’ beside our bed - with a gate around it - and he sleeps right through the night.

Zorro is a mini package of total cuteness, and his forever family will be so lucky to have him!!
