Meet Zeus
Please fill out an adoption application at our website: www.iowaweimrescue.org. We are not a shelter, but a rescue that operates out of foster homes and with volunteers only. Once your application is received, a volunteer will make contact with you to start our adoption approval process.
Zeus is a smart, funny, loving, 8-year-old male blue weim with a big throaty bark and a heart full of love. Zeus has a complex personality that once you understand him, he becomes easy to work with. Zeus needs love and a home that is predictable and consistent. Zeus has anxieties that can be managed well behaviorally. The main indication that he is experiencing anxiety is drooling. He also drools when he is about to be fed. Zeus does not do well when he is alone nor does he do well in smaller confined places such as a kennel. Zeus would do well in a home that has another dog, preferably one that is rather chill. And an arrangement where both dogs could be left in a room together when the family needs to leave the house. In his current foster home, the resident weim and Zeus stay in the laundry room when the family has to go out. This has been very successful for 4-6 hours.
Zeus loves to go on walks and does well on a leash with the use of a noselead. He walks with a loose leash and heels as well as sits on command. Zeus becomes anxious around dogs he has not been introduced to therefore a dog park is not advised for him. Cats are an unknown. Zeus has done well around a toddler and 2 additional dogs who visit frequently.
Zeus is housebroken. He currently uses a dog door that has 24-hour access to a fenced in yard, but he also signals when he needs to go out. He has not had an accident in his foster home. Zeus likes to help you keep kitchen counters tidy. He will be sure to explore counters and assumes he should help with tidiness by relieving you of any food he finds on the counter. Zeus is very food driven. Combining this with how smart he is has made training him very productive.
We’ll be looking for a family who is good about rules and structure AND/OR has a really good sense of humor because you’re definitely going to get a slice of pizza swiped outta your hand by this guy. ?
Zeus is fostered in the Des Moines metro and his adoption fee is $250. Who can help give this guy his best life?
