Meet Zena!

7-year-old Zena was found in the Palmdale desert weighing only 40 lbs. She was taken to the local shelter and classified as a stray. Unfortunately, no one came to claim her, and soon, Zena was set to be euthanized due to overcrowding at the shelter. Thankfully, Shepherds Paws Animal Rescue (SPARI) stepped up to save her, and she has been living in a foster home for the past 3 months. Zena now weighs a healthy 57 lbs., has a beautiful coat, and is ready for her forever home!

While in her foster home, Zena has been around small and large dogs and rabbits. Her foster mom describes Zena as low-key and mellow in the house and a high energy senior outside. Zena enjoys going for walks around the neighborhood and on hikes. She is house-trained with potty breaks every 6 hours. Zena loves mealtime and eats separately, so she isn't tempted to eat the other dog's food.

Her foster mom shares what else she has learned about this resilient beauty:

"Zena LOVES women and immediately accepting of their attention. She is alert with men, will approach eagerly but is avoidant if the men try to pet her right away. After about 15 seconds of sniffing, she is good to go! She is skittish with loud kids, will run away or avoid them, but once they calm down, she is fine.

Zena is great with all animals we have seen her with. She gets skittish around pit bulls specifically, but she has never been aggressive towards another animals or shown any prey drive. Zena is alert but indifferent towards most other animals.

Zena's forever family will need to be patient, as she takes a week or so to adjust to her new environment. It takes time to gain her full trust, but once you do she is fully trusting of you. We also respect her boundaries (we do not touch her when she is laying on her bed unless it is an emergency) and in return she rarely resister her daily grooming and weekly ear cleanings. We clean her feet after every walk because we found she licks her paws if we don't.

Zena is truly a trooper, and she deserves the world!"
