Meet Woody!

Woody is about as perfect as they come! So hard to believe this little 10 lb. guy was picked up as a stray and nobody was looking for him. He had been out on his own for quite a while and was an overgrown, matted mess. One of our favorite groomers got him in the next day for us and unveiled an adorable Maltese mix. The city shelter guessed him to be about 6 years old, so that is reflected on his intake records. When the groomer got a closer look and cleaned up his teeth, she guessed him to be closer to 3 years old, so we don’t know his exact age. He is scheduled to be neutered on December 11.
Woody’s foster home has many dogs of their own. He tolerates them and for the most part co-exists nicely other than a very occasional minor tiff if food is involved. They just feed him separately - simple solution. However, Woody seems to have zero desire to interact with the other dogs. He LOVES his humans! He needs and deserves a home where someone is home most of the time. He is affectionate and loves petting and cuddling. He’s not a fan of being outside. No wonder after being stray for who knows how long! And he isn’t really interested in going for walks on leash. He just wants to be inside, in his bed, or in your arms.
Amazingly, his foster mom says that he seemed housebroken from the minute she welcomed him. Initially, until all the dogs had time to become acquainted, his foster mom set up a 4’x4’ playpen for him with a cushy dog bed in one corner, a soft blanket in another corner, and his food and water bowls. She placed a big washable potty pad down to cover the floor area, and he only soiled it once in all the time she had him (over a month!) when she had to be gone for about 5 hours. Overall, he is very good about “holding it”. Better than using a crate, the playpen gives him space to get up and move around a bit. Woody deserves better than being put in a crate. He gets up from his bed when he needs to go out for potty, and if you are in another room will bark to let you know it’s time. He knows how to come in the doggy door but expects you to open the door to let him out. Then he darts out the door to the fenced backyard using his same spots to eliminate, then he runs back in anxious to go back in his playpen. The fosters don’t feel he needs to be in there! He could have full run with the others inside the house. But he absolutely loves his playpen and wants to be in his own space, in his soft bed, unless he is curled up with you. He is quiet…rarely barks at all…not a chewer…not a digger. His foster parents say it would be impossible to find a better dog! Because Woody was found as a stray, an ideal applicant will have a fenced yard.

We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. We do not ship our dogs and require home visits. Must live in area to adopt, will not respond to out of area/country requests. Additionally we require physically fenced yard for dog/pup to play in safely. Exceptions are sometimes made to this requirement but is up to the foster and more often done for the small breed dogs.

All our dogs have been treated with dewormer; heartworm tested (if age appropriate -7 mths or older); treated for fleas/ticks; microchipped; and examined by veterinarian plus given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed at time of adoption. Dogs will be spayed/neutered thru us prior to finalizing any adoption.

We provide information on dogs age and breed based on what we are told by person surrendering dog or vet's best guess. While we try our best we cannot guarantee that this information is 100% accurate and can often be best guess in case of our lovable mutts.
