Meet Winston
Hi, my name is Winston! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Energetic, snuggly, a bit rough around the edges but overall a friendly boy
-Can Live with Kids: Older teenagers ages 16+ (up to counselor's discretion)
-Can Live with Cats: No
-Can Live with Dogs: Possibly yes, he can be a bit overbearing with other dogs so it will need to be just the right match.
-Can do Apartment Living: No
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, one private lesson required
-Energy Level: Medium
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No
-Additional Information:
Winston was recently adopted through Whatcom Humane Society but was unfortunately returned under no fault of his own. His previous family noted that "he is the sweetest dog and is a huge cuddle bug/lap dog, while he does have his moments of being rough he is overall very calm and loving." He would do best in a home where he is the only animal, although he could possibly live with another dog. Continued positive reward based training will help Winston with his manners as he could use some work on leash skills and jumpiness. Sometimes during rough play he can get a bit overstimulated and become mouthy, so he should be working on this as well. Winston does have a luxating patella, but our vet is not recommending surgery, and as long as he is happy and comfortable it should not need surgery in the future. He will likely limp off and on throughout his life. Once he's settled in, Winston is sure to be a great companion for many years to come.
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
