Meet Wink

VIRGINIA AREA -- Wink is a perfect little sweet companion estimated to be about 9 years old, neutered male who weighs about 10 lbs. Wink is a miniature poodle that went through so much before he came to us. When Wink was rescued, he was in terrible condition and every square inch of his body was pink and he was itching constantly. Vet examined Wink and diagnosed him with scabbies, chronic ear infection (which explained why he was snappy when someone try to pet him in the head) and in addition, he was heartworm positive. It was obvious that such a tiny guy was an outdoor dog in someone's house in the past, and his hair/ skin/ general health condidion was not managed at all. While he was getting vetted to get the proper medical treatment, he was in the middle of a fight amongst dogs at the shelter, and due to the shock and trauma, one of his eyes popped out which gave him a permanent damage (blinded in one eye). The ER vet was able to place the eye back in. but not able to save the vision sadly.

But, Wink is a survivor! He completed his heartwarm treatment and fully recovered from scabbies. He still has eczema on his skin, and will need to receive monthly injection of Cytopoint a few more months to be permanently cured of his skin condition, but that is easily obtainable, our foster mom thinks. Wink was seen by a cardiologist since his arrival in the US, and the symptoms for his heart is also controllable with daily heart meds (Vetmedin, 1.25mg x2 daily). We were told he does not need to be on Lasix, as long as his breathing is monitored visually. Wink did however developed symptoms for diabetes since his arrival, and now, he is currently receiving insulin twice a day at his foster home which makes things a bit more complicated. What a life Wink has..

With so much that Wink went through, we are looking for a family that will shower Wink with love, trust and belief. Wink is doing his best, but he is afraid of the insulin shots, and he does not know why he is getting poked every day. His foster mommy is working with a trainer, so that Wink is being less sensitive of his shots currently. This is a life long commitment, and BFA does not take it lightly. Wink is still a great companion, and has so much love to give to his family. Once you get the routine down, giving daily insulin shots won't stop you from loving Wink, because Wink is really that special...(ask his foster moms in the areas, we have a several of them!) We also have to look into whether the adopter is able to afford Wink's medical expanses too since Wink has a several special needs conditions what need routine check up, and will need to be given medicines for life.

If you think you have a small space in your home for a dog that definitely need your help to survive, please consider Wink. Wink is easy to take care of because he is potty trained, does not exhibit any separation anxiety, and easy to get along with people and other dogs. We are very sure that Wink will be forever thankful to you and your family, and show you his unconditional love.

We believe people who adopt rescue animals because they are willing to accept a bit of imperfection, and willing to embrace, work/ train and love them no matter what baggage the animal had in the past. It can be challenging, but extremely rewarding. We have seen amazing transformation in our adopted dogs who have been with loving families, and it is our goal to provide all of them with the opportunity. We are at our happiest when we see photos of our adopted animals smile with the new adoptive family, and we hope to find Wink a loving family who would do the same.

Please consider adopting Wink and making him part of your family! If you would like to apply to adopt Wink, you can download an application here:
