Meet Weeman

Our handsome Weeman is a friendly adult dog who has not seen very much of the world in his four years of life. He is part of an 8-pack of Foxhounds surrendered to a North Carolina Shelter when their owners filed for divorce.

Weeman came to us along with three of his eight housemates, after the divorcing owners lost their home. The dogs were malnourished and unkempt, and uncertain of their new surroundings. Nonetheless all three Hounds navigated the rescue transition smoothly.

Weeman can be shy at first, but quickly warms to loving, gentle touch. He would thrive in an active home with another well adjusted dog to show him the ropes. He appears to be an American Foxhound, and he lives up to their lovable reputation.

At four years old, he is a large dog, at a lean weight of 47 pounds, although he could fill out to 50 pounds and still be within normal weight range. His short, flat tri-colored coat is largely black and tan, with white markings.

Once he comes out of his shell, Weeman is a happy boy, and would be a great addition to an active, dog-savvy single or couple, who can provide at least one to two leisurely leash walks, so that Weeman can meander and stop to smell the "roses." Scent hounds are extremely easy to manage because the leisurely walk that engages their senses, provides much needed mental and physical exercise.

Weeman also needs a fair amount of exercise and focused playtime so that he does not become bored and get into mischief. His confidence level would benefit greatly from ongoing obedience training, which is helpful in providing additional mental stimulation. He is slowly learning his commands, although he can become distracted easily. He is very treat motivated and responds well to Positive Reinforcement and Leadership techniques, and seems to enjoy his training sessions.

Weeman has good house manners, and is mostly house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings.
