Meet Twigs

Meet Twigs (previously known as Twix)!

This is heartbreaking for her current family, but they are needing to find Twigs a home with no other dogs. This is what her mom says:

We adopted Twigs when she was approximately 8 months old and she has been with us ever since. She is approximately 6 years old and weighs around 30 pounds. She is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations and heartworm prevention as of 2/2/2024.

Twigs is a wonderful dog. She is loyal, playful, energetic, highly intelligent, and loves snuggles. She loves our children and they love her. She is great with them., especially our son. However, because of her energy level, and not being great with spacial awareness, I would recommend she not be in a home with small children.

We have worked with a wonderful trainer and she knows sit, stay, down, wait, leave it, and even “hugs.” She is extremely intelligent and eager to please, so she learns very quickly. I think she would make a great candidate for agility. She taught herself how to climb the ladder and rock wall on our kids playset and does it with ease. We also had to put chicken wire on our farm gate because she could jump between the slats with no problem. My daughter also taught her how to jump through a hula hoop and Twigs seems to enjoy learning skills and tricks. She is house trained and crate trained.

Twigs is high energy and high anxiety, so she needs daily exercise. She walks extremely well on a leash with a harness and does not react to other dogs, as long as they give her space. She is currently on a small dose of Reconcile to help with her anxiety.

Twigs does fine with cats, as long as they do not run. If they run, she will chase them. We have a cat and they get along fine.

Twigs MUST be in a home with no other dogs. We LOVE Twigs and do not want to rehome her. However, she struggles with resource guarding and has recently become very aggressive with our elderly dog. At this point, we do not feel it is safe for her to stay with us, as the fights have caused injuries to both dogs on multple occasions, even with the extensive training, exercise, and medication.

Our vet is of the opinion that Twigs has sensed our other dog is getting older, weaker, and therefore less likely to be able to defend herself and is taking advantage of the situation. Therefore, we have decided it would be best for everyone if she were to go to a home where she is the only dog.

She is fed in her crate and does fine with that. However, she does guard anything and everything that she values. She tends to guard me, certain rooms or spaces in the home, and things she finds that she thinks are high value. She has only shown resource guarding with other dogs, not people. I am able to take something from her if needed with no problem.

The adoption fee is waived for the right home, donations are always excepted and appreciated. There will still be an application process, home check, contract, etc. you can apply to adopt on our website www.fureverfurkids.com
