Meet Tilly
OK Berner people, say hello to Tilly. Tilly is adoptable now and she has the fine distinction of being one of the most ridiculously expensive dogs ever for BFDR after two hip surgeries. She is now surgically repaired and all the stupidity of her poor breeding has been repaired.
Tilly came from an Ohio puppy mill. Despite having the worst hips I've ever seen, they used her as a breeding dog and who knows how many litters she cranked out before they retired her. Tilly is 3 years old now and 100 pounds. Those are the easy stats. Now here's the rest.
Tilly spent two years pretty much in a box with zero human interaction beyond people throwing food at her. Life still freaks her out somewhat and she is never going to be the life of the party kind of social dog that Berner folks would typically expect. She is timid and quiet, but very sweet. Tilly had to be introduced to every new thing in modern life from thresholds in doorways to dishwashers to doorbells and so on. Change is scary for her and she is going to require a home with low stress levels.
What Tilly needs is a home with a securely fenced yard, another dog to show her how to be a dog and patient people who will let her acclimate to her new home. She will have to relearn all the things in a new home. Having had many dogs like her over the years, I can confirm that with a little time and love, she will be a fantastic dog, but she is never going to be the kind of dog you take to the family reunion picnic. Kids in the teenaged years and up would be best.
Because of her background and timidity, we think she needs to stay relatively local where adopters can meet her and take her home.
