Tequila is a great representation of our mission here at FWAAA. The overlooked and unwanted. The discarded and abandoned. The barely clinging onto life, too tired to go on…. These dogs are what drive us!!

This 12 year old Pomeranian / Papillon mix found herself in a scary metal kennel in the shelter- facing euthanasia for false positive test results.

A groomer had taken her for an “out and about” just for the day to get her cleaned up, but after she met Tequila’s sweet soul, she was hesitant to return her, unsure if she would even stand a chance. She reached out to several rescues but none of them would touch Tequila due to her diagnosis. The volunteer made room for Tequila in a spare bathroom and fostered her underneath the shelter while she continued her efforts to contact more rescues. A couple of weeks later, Tequila was tagged by FWAAA and was no longer at the shelter’s will. She was deemed as a hospice case and was expected to never leave foster care.

However, over the next few months Tequila started having increased energy, developing an extra friendly and playful attitude, gaining weight, and developing a thick, luxurious coat. None of it made sense… so she was sent to the vet for a re-test.

Negative.

Everyone was in disbelief. At first- joy that Tequila could leave quarantine and would now have a chance at adoption. But then- frustration and anger that Tequila was going to be killed for a disease she didn’t actually have.

She has no idea what a miracle of a second chance she’s received. But now she needs another miracle. …A committed adopter willing to love a senior dog for the rest of her life.

Tequila is a friendly and happy dog who makes the most of every day receiving belly rubs and sunbathing in the backyard. She enjoys being brushed and does the cutest tippy tap dance routine when it’s time for breakfast. She loves car rides and going for short walks. She’s dog and cat friendly and would love a home with another dog to play with, ideally one who isn’t too high strung. Tequila is mostly deaf, so she can’t always hear you calling for her and will require a securely fenced yard. She sees and gets around fine and is still eating solid food.
