Meet Teddy/Drumstick

Teddy/Drumstick arrived at NYCACC - The New York City Animal Care Centers- The city's municipal shelter as an owner surrender. They dropped him off and said noting more. This was in January 2023 His time was coming to an end and he was scheduled for euthanasia.

Teddy/Drumstick is very sweet, and has not been around kids but I think around older kids, (teenagers) he would do well.

He is good with dogs, just needs proper introduction. He loves blankets! Giving him a fresh blanket every day he appreciates more than you know! He hasn’t been around cats.

People need to earn his trust; he is sweet out of the gate when he likes someone and extremely excited for walks! He needs an experienced adopter who is kind and who takes him on a lot of walks and ideally has a 6 foot fenced big play yard.
He pulls a bit on a walk at first but eases to once walking. Once walking he is great and loves every minute on his walks! He gets so excited ok and walks that he gets a little mouthy with the leash while leashing him and at the end of the walk. He listens well and Will sit for any good treat, and responds to kind direction. He needs a kind leader who will always be patient and kind and appreciate the beautiful and intelligent being he is.

He is house trained, and he is crate trained. Listens well to sit and leave it and LOVES treats. He is a foodie for sure. If you want him to have your full attention have treats in hand! Very treat motivated!

Teddy/Drumstick is adorable, and kind and needs an experienced kind and caring forever home and one that will always be as loyal to him as he will be to his family and give him lots of attention. He loves watching movies. He would be best with older kids, a family with kids age 13 and above perhaps. He is always sweet! Bring that he is both young and energetic, he needs an active family or person who will take him on long walks, or jogs! He needs an experienced adopter, who understands just how precious he is, and that his mouthiness with the leash is just excitement and once he is told each time not to bite the leash jumping up a bit (just excited to go out each every time), he listens. He loves to play! He has a cute quirk where when he falls asleep or gets relaxed even when wide awake, he will rest or relax with his mouth closed and his tongue sticking out.

He will benefit a lot with a family to call his own that can spend a lot of time with him. He needs a 6 foot high secure (he is smart!) play yard for him. He would also benefit from being placed with a family or person who has at least one family pet although I don’t think he would mind being the only pet either and have your full attention as the “only child!” He has no issues with dogs that I’ve seen. I don’t know how he would do with with cats. He loves the Halo wild oat and blueberry treat (cookies). He is very precious smart pup who I believe to be both Belgian Malinois and Pit bull, so you need to be as smart as he is!

He needs a responsible, kind, loving family who won’t give up on him because he’s a high energy grown puppy. He is very smart and when treated with love and kindness always, he will respect that and love his family forever;
he deserves the same in return, loyal, loving and kind! Could benefit from his family working with a behaviorist so that he can be better understood - he’s truly awesome.

Home checks, consent to a full background screening will apply for his potential new home. Adoption at rescue and fosters discretion. There are home visits before and after an adoption to make sure all is well after placement too.
