Meet Teddy

Meet Teddy!

Just LQQK at those eyes - it's as if you can see right into his beautiful soul! His face is the epitome of happiness, and he brings joy to everyone he encounters. And ohhhh, that cute, endearing underbite!

Here's what Teddy has experienced, and what he wants to share...

My name is TEDDY, and today I was dropped off at a scary place by my family. They said that I seem sick, and I’m always trying to get attention. You see, we have a new baby in our family, and mom and dad are exhausted. They said they don’t want to have to deal with me because I’m always hungry, and always in the way. And in any case, they can’t afford to feed me.

I heard the people here at the scary place say that I’m way too skinny, and that I stink to high heaven. They said that my eyes are blank and hard, and that it’s unlikely that anyone will ever want to adopt me. I wish I could tell them that I’m just afraid, and that my eyes are usually bright and happy when I’m with my family. I hope they come back for me soon.

Someone here tried to touch me but I had to move away quickly because my skin is raw, and my back feels like it’s on fire - I have crusty sores and ragged scars. I don’t know how to talk so I had to growl a little to let them know that it was painful. I think they understood because they haven’t tried to touch me again.

Now they are sticking needles into me, and they said that I have heartworm. Maybe this is why I don’t feel so great. Anyway, they just shoved me into a kennel and said that I’ll be on “the list” for tomorrow. I don’t know what this means, but I hope my family comes back to get me before then – I miss them, and I know they must be worried about me.

I’m so tired… I keep drifting off to sleep, but it’s very loud here with a lot of dogs barking, and I’m having really bad dreams. I know my family will be back… surely they wouldn’t just leave me here in this horrible, scary place.

It’s morning now, and they’re lining us all up… for what, I’m not sure. Maybe this is the line for breakfast. Or maybe we’ll all get to go outside for some fresh air and play time. Or maybe, just maybe, our families are waiting for us at the end of the line! I’m so excited to get there so I can see them!!!

I like the other dogs that I’m meeting here in this line – they all seem happy and friendly, and I think we’ll be great pals. Maybe they can come to my house for a play date when my family picks me up!

But wait… this seems to be a bad line to be in – I can hear dogs ahead of me crying, and then they suddenly go silent. What is happening??? I heard someone say we are being put to sleep. What does that mean? PLEASE, I just want my family! I promise to be a good boy!

Suddenly, one of the people here at the scary place is pulling me out of the line. I’m so terrified that every muscle in my body seems frozen, and I can’t move. They said that I am being rescued and they’re taking me back to the kennel. Has my family come back for me???

----
This was Teddy’s story when he was brought into one of the high kill shelters in South Carolina. Teddy was fortunate that he had gained the attention of a kind-hearted person, who saw his plight, and posted a desperate plea on social media to try to save his life.

Fortunately for Teddy, the folks at Hearts and Tails Animal Alliance saw his photo, and knew they had to help this sweet boy who had been so severely neglected, and wanted nothing more than some love and affection from his former family.
With just minutes to spare, the call was made to the animal control facility, and everyone held their breath while the staff went to see if Teddy was still alive, or if he had already reached the end of the line.

We’re thrilled to announce that Teddy is now here at our shelter in Weare, New Hampshire and is feeling much better these days. He has gained weight, been treated to cure his heartworm, and is a very healthy, happy boy. The only thing missing for Teddy is his forever family, and he is hoping to find them soon. This gentle boy is longing for affection, and will sit quietly, hoping for just a little bit of your time.

He loves to go for walks, and is very good on a leash. He's just an all around sweetheart.

We believe Teddy is a mix of several different breeds (maybe pug, boxer, chow - who knows?). Teddy is about 2 years old and weighs just 35lbs. He has all of his required vaccines, is neutered and microchipped.

Did we mention he has the SWEETEST temperament??? He loves other dogs, and he's happy to spend time with humans of all ages. The shelter in SC said that he ignores cats, but we don't have a way to test him here at the shelter in NH.
